I know God created the universe, but after seeing the recent front-page
article in Time magazine, I’m wondering if he could have use the process of
evolution to do it?
You aren’t alone in wondering if God used the process of evolution to create
the universe. It seems that about once a year some major media source comes
out with an article on a “new discovery” that is supposed to show how humans
“evolved” from animals.
The short answer to your question is this:
God could have used the process of evolution to create the universe (and
human beings in particular), BUT that’s not how he’s told us he created it
(and us).
Go grab your Bible and take a moment right now to read Genesis chapter one,
the first chapter of God’s Word, the chapter where he describes the creation
of the universe.
One of the very striking things in that chapter is how orderly everything
was created. The pattern is repeated each day:
“And God said...” “And there was...” “And it was good...” “And there was
evening and morning, the xth day...”
The theory of evolution is based on belief in a very chaotic creation (no
rhyme or reason) and things changing into other things simply by chance.
God’s account of how he created everything tells us that it was all very
orderly, and with a definite design and plan.
Furthermore, when it comes to day five and six and the creation of birds,
sea creatures and land animals, God tells us that he created “each according
to it’s kind.” God is, in no uncertain terms, telling us there that he
created the various species separately and distinct from every other
species. He makes a point of telling us that he created “each according to
its kind” so that we would know he didn’t just throw a ball of “goo” into
space and stood back to see what it would all become. In telling us that
every kind of living thing was created separate and distinct from every
other kind of living thing, God is making the point that he didn’t let one
living thing “evolve” until it became another living thing.
It is very unfortunate that the “theory of evolution” is nearly everywhere
presented as scientific fact. When in reality, this theory runs contrary to
one of the basic laws of science. (It’s the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. If
you’re the scientific sort, you can ask me to explain it further).
Geological and fossil evidence are also overwhelmingly contrary to evolution
and favorable to the biblical account of creation.
But you cannot go to a natural history museum without seeing displays of
things labeled as existing millions and even billions of years ago (the
theory of evolution requires these long periods of time in order to be
possible). We hear on the news that a certain fossil or rock formation came
to be millions of years ago. We see stories, like the one in Time magazine,
that present evolution as fact. And we start to believe it: “Well, I heard
it on .... and saw it at.... so it must be true.”
Rest assured, the theory of evolution is not true. And it is not even
scientifically possible. But you won’t hear any major media publicizing that
fact, because then they would be admitting that there is a God and that he’s
behind it all.

teaching that we evolved from apes?”
In the mean time, thank God that HE created the heavens and the earth and
that HE created YOU!
